Unit 5  is about costume, props, location but mainly about the editing and unit 18 cinematography elements which contribute to the the lighting and focus pull in my short film.

Camera settings

When conducting my short film I have come to realise that I will be using a DSLR camera that will be provided to me by my school. This means I will need to know and understand the settings that are designed on the camera. and what will successfully help me get where I need to in terms of using lightings and cinematography elements when it comes to me conducting my own short film. 

DSLR cameras have many different settings on that shift between photography and video as well as manual or auto modes. DSLR stands for Digital single lens reflex. This means that that there is a light that reflects off of the cameras mirror of the scene that is getting captured. This allows there to sort of be a preview of what is Infront of the camera about to get filmed or recorded depending on the setting. 

When filming I will need many additional parts that go along with the DSLR camera in order for me to have a chance at creating a professional short film. This equipment will help factor in to the long term and short term success.  These things consist of:

- Tripods

- SD cards  

- LED panels 

- Attachable microphone 

When I film using my DSLR camera I will be able to activate these utensils. When conducing my short film, I am asked to use cinematography elements. 

Manual modes control:

This can be conducted if I understand and learn how to use the camera and a mode called Manual mode control. This is because Manual mode allows you to do several things. The three types of manual mode controls I will discuss is:

1.  Aperture and f-stops
2. Pull focus techniques 
3. Depth of field 

The Aperture and F-stops are a sort of hole that has different sizes that can get adjusted for how much light is able to shine through. This adjustment control how much light shall pass through and allow the camera to get in. By having this option as a mode available , it means I can control what type of lighting I wish in my short film scenes.  There is the Pull focus technique. This technique is a technique that helps the audience focus on what the producer wants them to focus on as it will focus on one object and blur the rest of the area/surroundings. Finally, there is also the depth of field. This is have a close object in camera frame as well as the most far distanced object also in shot. 

Types of camera lenses and their use:

Every camera can use with different lenses however the DSLR camera has the opportunity to have different fixed lenses onto it. Here is a list of them types of lenses and their uses.  

• Firstly we have the lenses that are standard. This lense is what is used by every film maker and  photographer usually used as it is simple and catches every necessary thing that needs to be clear on camera.
• After standard we have the wide angle. The wide angle is a lense that allows more on set to be in the camera shots. This allows the audience to see a bigger picture with greater detail. 
• We then have a lens that is aimed for focus which is Telephoto. This is used for a long focus pull as it allows the focus of an object that is set far from the camera and the cameras lenses itself.  
• Marco lense is a lense that allows objects that are not usually noticeable up and close to the camera. This allows the audience to understand every detail that is being shown to them. 
• Lastly we have the fish eye lense. This lense is an even wider lense then a Marco lense. This is used to get up close to the camera seen as it shows a wide surroundings that in many cases is not necessarily straight camera angle. 

 Use of exposure control for effect:

Here I will list three of the most use techniques and some of my favourite effects. This allows the exposure to be under my control so I can manage what type of  lighting i want that will go into my cinematography elements.

1. shutter speed: Shutter speed is the amount of time it takes for the curtains of the camera lense. The longer the shutter speed the longer the shot is taken. This is used to demonstrate what type of lighting there is or even if the producer wants drag out an image they can.
2. ISO: The ISO controls what light is allowed to shine through or not. The lighting can change from dark to light or vice versa. This is used to make scenes demonstrate a different lighting rather then uploading then editing. 
3. Light trails: This tool is a very useful tool that I could have use din my short film in order to demonstrate my vampire idea. Instead of speeding my vampire I could use a long shutter speed and light trail in order to portray that clearer to the audience.

Evidence of using lighting equipment

 During my short film i had mainly used natural light as the lighting I had needed was already created with the lighting that I was getting indirectly from outside and the sky. The scenes i had filmed in the beginning need to be bright and they were as it was early hours in the evening when I filmed as well as when I needed my night scenes the sky was getting darker and darker and I had waited at the right time to film my short film with the specific lighting tone I wanted and needed to perfect my short film. It was not too dark and not too light. 

I have also used the different lighting shades that were reflecting off of Rebecca's glowing and flashing multi coloured LED lights glasses as well as the head piece with LED lights. This allowed there to be a range of colour in the scene and add a sort of comedian side to my short film.
